While the core of all projects at SAF is community development, we believe in focused programmes that address our cultural heritage and artistic traditions, specifically in South Asia. Through research and collaborations, it is our aim to create a platform for a range of community-led artistic practices that have the potential to develop into a more complex and critical understanding of our socio-cultural environment.
The primary fascination with films-about-films has often revolved around mythologies of the director. At Cinema340 this year, we are interested in not only focusing on the established notion of the filmmaker-as-creator, but also in exploring the creation of a cinematic moment and the role that audiences, economies, landscapes, and spaces have had in shaping the culture of film in South Asia and the world.
This little gift from Kashmir to Goa is a window into the intricate work of these women artists, and a small symbol of their resilience and strength. We hope to bring some Christmas cheer !!
